Well this lovely feedback brought tears to my eyes!

I don’t think there is any more to say other than it has been a massive pleasure to work with this couple.

She is now 19 weeks pregnant and is starting to feel little movements during the evenings and I am enjoying continuing to support her on this journey.

A large part of my fertility training has covered the investigation side of working with people on a fertility journey.

It is an area that is often missed by the mainstream medical community, as they have their processes. But if that hasn’t worked for you, maybe it is time to look at an alternative. Ie finding the root cause and addressing it, so you can move forward on your fertility journey with new understanding and better health.

I have been realising recently that the words we use make an enormous difference to how we feel about something.

Over the years, I had given past events from my life a name that felt more comfortable, without even realising it. But recently something happened which gave it it’s true name and I realised the impact the name has.

Then I was sent a link to a list of suggested name changes for things related to fertility, pregnancy and beyond that made me realise again how important words are when going through something difficult. Thank you @jessicaadamsholisticsuccess for sharing the article with me.

Above are some of the replacements suggested by doctors for a blog on the @peanut app. I think in the UK we are tending towards better language but I understand there are still references to geriatric pregnancies for the over 35s and lots of blunt language around pregnancy loss.

I have a lot of positive pregnancy news coming through at the moment!

This couple were applying for NHS IVF when they came to see me. Male factor infertility had been identified and high prolactin levels had shown up on the female side in a private blood test.

We worked on gut health and identified a varicocele but the couple decided to go ahead with IVF and also work on the varicocele in the background.

We prepared for 3 months before the IVF, they got some good quality blastocysts, the transfer was successful and they have made it through the first trimester.

I am so pleased for them and wish them all the best with the rest of their pregnancy!

One thing that I think really made the difference here was that both of them were committed to working on their health and taking some time out of their week to talk about where they were with their health and receive acupuncture treatments. I know not everyone can take that time out of their week, and I am happy to support via phone or email if one partner can’t attend the appointments. It is being committed to making some simple changes that can make a big difference.

One of my core values as a fertility coach and acupuncturist is honesty.

I will only work with you if I think I can make a difference.

If I think your partner’s health and fertility is affecting your results, I will only work with you if they are on board.

If I think you need some testing done and you can’t afford the testing and to work with me, I will suggest that you wait to save up so you can get the best out of my advice.

To be perfectly honest, if everyone is on board and willing to make some simple changes to their lifestyle, take some good quality supplements and go and get the tests they need, there is a good chance that we will be successful. I can’t guarantee a pregnancy but these qualities are the ones that lead to success in my experience.

Last post, for now, about AMH.

If you have tested your AMH and it’s low, I love nothing more than to put on my detective hat and find out why! 🕵️‍♀️

Yes, it may be due to age or premature ovarian insufficiency, but until you have checked other factors, you won’t know for sure. And even if it is POI, it may not be a big issue for natural fertility. If you have low AMH and have been TTC for more than 6 months, it is probably worth doing some digging sooner rather than later.

Some of the things I look at when investigating low AMH:

❤️Sleep quality
🧡Digestion
💛Menstrual Cycle
💚Stress levels

And some tests I may suggest to dig a bit deeper:

✔️Hormone blood test
✔️DUTCH test (dried urine test for comprehensive hormones)
✔️Stool test
✔️Full Thyroid blood test

During the In-Depth Consultation, we would talk about which tests would be useful for you and I would say which ones I would prioritise for your situation.

Once the results are in, I explain the plan to address any issues that have arisen, support you to implement any lifestyle changes and explain the results to you, so you know what you are doing and why.
