My Therapies
Once I’ve taken your full history and understand how I’ll be helping you, you will experience one or more of these therapies:
Acupuncture
Acupuncture is a treatment derived from Traditional Chinese Medicine. With acupuncture, I insert fine needles into your body for therapeutic purposes. There are acupuncture points all over the body, but I typically place needles in the following places:
- On the abdomen, no lower than the pubic bone
- On the leg from just above the knee down to the toes
- On the arms, hands and wrists
- In the ear, behind the ear
- On the head, including between the eyebrows
Naturopathy
Naturopathy is the practice of using natural interventions to improve health. This includes dietary changes, lifestyle changes, exercise and supplements.
Moxibustion
Moxibustion is based on the theory of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and is the practice of burning Moxa (either the herb mugwort or charcoal) on or near a person’s skin to prevent and cure disease.
I use several types of Moxa, some with a bit of smoke and some smokeless. I will always thoroughly explain what I plan to do before using Moxa so you can decide whether it is right for you or not.
Cupping
Cupping is another ancient healing method. With this therapy, I’ll place a cup on your skin with the air removed to create suction. The air in the cup is removed with a flame or pump before placing the cup on the skin.
I tend to use a flame with glass cups as I find it more effective. The cup either remains still or can be moved over an area, and it feels somewhat like a backwards massage as you will feel suction rather than pressure.
