Sometimes you just need a moment to inhale and exhale, with someone who understands, and can tailor treatment to your needs.

Recurrent pregnancy loss is one of the most common reasons for people coming to see me.

The emotions around desire for a baby, fear of another loss, anxiety of falling pregnant and losing it again are enormous and can be consuming.

I often find there is a very clear reason. It can take a little bit of digging to be 100% certain but once you have that reason it is much easier to address.

This is why I place an emphasis on functional testing in certain cases like this. I can refer men for the best fertility testing available at my trade price to see whether that is part of the issue and if not, they get a tick. If it does show up an issue, I guide them through the fertility world to the best help available whilst supporting them with their health, fertility, eating and supplements.

I do the same with women and look at what aspects of their menstrual cycle can be improved, whether there are red flags for certain issues and work with them on that.

I am looking after a dog for a few weeks so you may be able to spot him in some of my recent posts!

It has been wonderful for getting me out in nature every day, even when the weather isn’t great (he makes me drive him to the park on the rainy days!!)

On my walk this morning, I was reflecting on a conversation I had with a male client yesterday.

I work with him remotely as he has to be physically present for his work, and I support his wife in person in the clinic.

They had suffered a number of miscarriages including an ectopic and started working with me earlier in the year.

They had seen a private fertility consultant who had run a good number of tests including sperm DNA fragmentation and a female fertility scan of the uterus and ovaries.

Sperm DNA fragmentation was just about ok but the levels of normal forms were low. However that is where the male investigations ended.

When I see results like this, I know that it will be having an impact, even if it is not the whole problem. So the next step was a detailed consultation, and due to waking in the night to pee we decided to start with investigating infections in the semen and urine (it’s a nice do-it-yourself home testing kit). This showed up an issue so it was treated. However after doing a comprehensive semen analysis there were still significant issues.

The next step was to see a consultant radiologist to rule out a varicocele. There was no pain or discomfort in his testes but the results were indicating there was still a problem.

The client said that he would go for the scan and consultation but was dubious that anything would show up. However, he said he was really pleased I had encouraged him to do this and see this particular specialist.

This is a route I take people down often because both I and my network of highly trained colleagues (thank you @fertilitysupport ) see this making a huge difference to fertility outcomes.

These clients are still on their journey but I feel they are another step closer to where they want to be.

Here are just 3 reasons why you should work with me if you are on a fertility journey.

I refer you for tests to find out the reason why you haven’t conceived. These are tests that are not offered by fertility clinics because their solution to infertility is IVF, or sometimes Clomid or Letrazole.

It is really difficult to be objective about our own health and lifestyle and spot ways to improve it. Often my clients are unaware that something can change until we dive into how they are feeling. I always work with them to find a solution that is enjoyable and achievable.

In terms of saving money, I have saved so many people enormous amounts of money. One client was recommended IVF as soon as possible before coming to see me and conceiving them naturally both times. She must have saved at least £10k by seeing me. Others have been through multiple rounds of IVF which have been unsuccessful due to infections, varicoceles, inflammation in the body. After coming to see me, their next round has been successful, who knows how many more rounds their clinics would have suggested. An even greater benefit is that these couples are more likely to conceive naturally if they want more children in the future because the issues have been resolved.

30-50% of the time, MALE FACTOR INFERTILITY is part of the problem.

And yet often it is brushed aside because there are millions of sperm so there must be some good ones right?

The problems are:
❤️ The good sperm getting through all of the less good to get through to the egg.
🧡 Sperm that look good on the outside (thank you semen analysis) don’t always have good quality DNA on the inside (which is why checking sperm DNA fragmentation early on is important).
💛 Sperm DNA kicks in from around day 3 after fertilisation so losses after that can be down to egg quality or sperm quality or uterine environment.

If you’ve been doing “everything” and nothing is working, maybe it is time to dig a little deeper.

I love being outdoors in nature but over the last week I have had to get out every day for at least 2 hours as I am looking after a lovely energetic dog 🐶

I have really noticed a difference in my energy levels and feel a lot stronger for the massive increase in steps and fresh air!
